BALFOLK WORKSHOP
Balfolk has gain popularity in the Netherlands and will be instructed by Meris and an assistant in Arcen! The dances are done in couples or in groups. The workshops are there to make it possible for everybody to participate in the dances. The most important dances will be explained (Scottish, Jig, Cercle, Andro and a Mazurka). The basics of these dances are quite simple so put on your shoes (or not whatever makes you feel happy) and join the workshop!
Even if you are an expert on Balfolk it's still fun to participate, you can improvise and play around which keeps dancing fun! So if you like to learn some dances join the workshop!




ATELIER ARTERRE
Creative spirits can come to the Ghostly Gazebo and make their own paint from natural materials. Let your imagination run free during this exclusive workshop.

Martine Lavens is teacher with the Atelier Arterre in Malmedy (Belgian Ardennes). In 2000 she was introduced to clay and ceramics. After a couple of years teaching in a private atelier she went to study at the art academy in Tongeren (ceramics) and Verviers (sculpting and art history). For her modelling work the human body and the face with its many expressions are a great source of inspiration to her. She continues to do internships and workshops. It remains a fascination for her to 'sample' different techniques and getting to know different people and their ideas. The change, inspiration and knowledge it brings can be shared with others.

If possible natural materials such as clay, mud, glass, minerals and pigments will be used. During the construction and finishing of the atelier and the house she continued the search for natural materials. Her interest in old paint-recipes and natural paint grew; a fascinating and colourful subject matter. Ecological painting has many profit: they are free of toxins; they are anti-static and are surprisingly easy to make. These natural pigments offer a multitude of warm colours no synthetic paint can come close to. Get inspired by nature and take part in this workshop.

Workshop Bookbinding with Thorsten Low
Learn how to bind a book.

The author and small-publisher Torsten Low will show you how a book is (hand)made and uses the fantasy series "Dunkel über Daingistan" as an example. All the work and steps of the process will be explained (e.g. gluing, cutting and binding) and demonstrated. While you are busy the writer and publisher will tell anecdotes about the series and publishing; you'll learn why "Dunkel über Daingistan" was completely bound by hand. GET A LICK...OF PAINT
Inside the Castle of Arcen you can visit the Facepainters and get a paint creation for your face. If you think that a costume is not enough and you wish to complete your transformation then you are here at the right address. Be sure then to stop by for some Facepaint. For a small contribution you can get a whole new appearance.


ACTIVITIES WHERE YOU CAN RELAX BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT
The location "The Lost Lake" is the place to be when you want some r & r. Here you'll find:
Aiwendil: surprisingly different tarot card reading. At Aiwendils you get aquainted with the power of tarot cards in a playful way. Simple readings start at €2; giving you the chance to get more insight in your life.

Other activities on this location include chair massages, reiki and aura cleansing.


POI AND JUGGLING
At the stand of the Circuswinkel you can learn to poi and juggle. You'll find them on the location Magic Grounds.


DEMONSTRATION MAKING CLAY FIGURES
Xenga makes beautifully sculpted creatures from clay. At their stand on the Fantasy Avenue you can see for yourself how they make them.


ARCHERY
Aim for the Medieval Road and test your archery skills here. Bijl & Boog is also present with their archery ranges.


FORGING DEMONSTRATION
Iron should be cast when it's hot; Black Oak and The Art Smithy know exactly how to do this. Visit them on the Medieval Road.


CRAFTS
Learn how to split stones at Ram Huidenhandel or watch how horns are made into bracelets. All this takes place on the Medieval Road.

The German Tolkien Society (DTG) is based in Köln and has more than 500 members, making it one of Germany's biggest literature societies. It was founded in 1997 and offers events connected to the life and work of the British writer J.R.R. Tolkien as well as international meetings. The DTG actively stimulates the international cooperation between Tolkien societies. It works within the German speaking ares closely together with similar, modern-fantasy institutions.

- introductions to a number of Middle Earth board and roleplay games
